On June 12, 2026, at approximately 16:29 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on Erie Street South, Romney Township.
The investigation revealed that a single motor vehicle, operated by a 57-year-old male from Wheatley, struck a berm before becoming airborne and landing on the beach. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the collision.
The driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. He was initially taken to Leamington District Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Windsor Regional Hospital.
Due to the severity of the collision and the injuries sustained, members of the Traffic Management Unit attended the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Erie Street South was closed for several hours but has since been reopened.
The investigation remains ongoing.
