Weapons/Arrest – CK26036289

Date: May 21, 2026, Time: 12:40 hrs Location: Lacroix Street and Richmond Street, Chatham

On May 21, 2026, at approximately 12:40 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to the intersection of Lacroix Street and Richmond Street in Chatham for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon.

Through the investigation, officers learned the incident stemmed from a road rage interaction between a 34-year-old male accused and a 51-year-old male both from Chatham, who were unknown to each other.

Further investigations revealed that the accused exited his vehicle and approached the complainant’s driver-side window while in possession of a knife in a threatening manner. Officers located the suspect at the scene and safely contained the situation.

The accused was located in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and a knife was recovered during the investigation.

As a result, the accused was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Count 1 – Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was released with a future court date of August 11, 2026.

Animal Complaint/Arrest – CK26036052

Date: May 21, 2026, Time: 12:29 hrs. Location: Cemetery Road, Wheatley

On May 21, 2026, at approximately 12:29 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an animal complaint on Cemetery Road in Wheatley after receiving information regarding animal abuse.

Through the investigation, officers located a severely injured dog and evidence of animal neglect and abuse. Animal Welfare Services (AWS) was contacted and attended the scene to assist with a joint investigation.

The dog was provided immediate medical care; however, it later succumbed to its injuries.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old male from Wheatley was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury

Animal Welfare Services will also be pursuing additional charges under provincial legislation in relation to several other farm animals located on the property.

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
