The Chatham-Kent Police Service participated in Canada Road Safety Week from May 1 to May 18, 2026. This seven-day national campaign is dedicated to making Canada’s roads safer by encouraging responsible driving habits, saving lives, and reducing injuries.

The campaign focused on eliminating impaired, distracted, and aggressive driving as well as the failure to wear seatbelts.

Throughout the campaign, the Chatham-Kent Police Service laid a total of 479 Provincial Offence Notices, and 10 Criminal Code offences were issued to drivers across the municipality. In addition, 13 R.I.D.E. programs were conducted, stopping 1,478 vehicles.

The following charges and offences were issued during the campaign:

  • 3 alcohol-impaired driving charges
  • 1 drug-impaired driving charge
  • 1 alcohol-refusal charge
  • 5 seven-day licence suspensions
  • 1 dangerous driving criminal charge
  • 2 driving while prohibited criminal charges
  • 5 electronic device offences
  • 364 speeding offences
  • 115 other provincial offences
