The Chatham-Kent Police Service, in partnership with Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, continues to investigate the fire that occurred on King Street East in Chatham.

As a result of the evidence obtained through the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, the fire is believed to have originated within the temporary structure where the individual was located with no indication of arson.

Information gathered through the investigation, including video surveillance from the area, does not reveal any foul play.

The deceased has been identified as a 66-year-old female from Chatham.

At the request of the family, the individual’s name will not be released at this time.
