The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.

Theft – CK26024691

Date: April 8, 2026, Time: 22:09 hrs., Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 22:09 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a shoplifting complaint at a retail store on St Clair Street, Chatham.

Investigations revealed that a male suspect entered the store, selected multiple items and exited without paying.

Through further investigation, officers located the suspect on St Clair Street, Chatham. The accused was identified as a 40-year-old male from Chatham-Kent. The stolen items were also recovered.

As a result of the investigation, he was charged with the following:

  • Possession Under $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date.  

Trespass – CK26024688

Date: April 8, 2026, Time: 22:47 hrs., Location: Woods Street, Chatham

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 22:47 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a suspicious person complaint on Woods Street in Chatham.

A male was reportedly observed peering into the windows of a residence while dressed in all black clothing and wearing a mask. Concerned neighbours detained the individual on the front lawn until police arrived.

Officers located and arrested the accused who was identified as a 30-year-old male from Chatham-Kent. He was charged with the following offence:

  • Trespassing at Night

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and released with conditions and a future court date of July 8, 2026.

Traffic Enforcement, Arrest – CK26024521

Date: April 8, 2026, Time: 07:16hrs., Location: King St. East, Chatham

On April 8, 2026, at approximately 7:16 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop on King Street East in Chatham following an Automated License Plate Recognition ALPR hit for a suspended driver.

The driver was identified as a 22-year-old male from Chatham. He was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Driving while Prohibited
  • Driving Under Suspension

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was later released with conditions and a future court date of May 26, 2026.
