The Chatham-Kent Police Service is warning the public of several recent fraud attempts reported across the municipality.

Over the past two weeks, police received multiple reports of a suspect approaching residences, primarily targeting elderly individuals. The suspect claims to have completed roof or chimney work and requests cash payments. Victims have confirmed that no work was completed on their homes.

Police are reminding residents to exercise caution when dealing with unsolicited individuals. Residents should not provide cash payments to unknown persons, should be cautious of door-to-door services they did not request and should always verify any claims of completed work before making payment.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service is also advising residents to ask for proper identification and company information, avoid feeling pressured to pay immediately and trust their instincts if something feels suspicious.

Police believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information or who may have been affected to contact the Chatham-Kent police Service at 519-436-6600. Residents are also encouraged to follow the Chatham-Kent Police Service on social media for more safety tips and updates.
