During National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, Chatham-Kent Police Officers conducted proactive enforcement and education initiatives aimed at keeping our roads safe and reducing impaired driving.
Over the course of the campaign, a total of 13 R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs were conducted, during which approximately 1,000 vehicles were stopped and checked.
As a result of enforcement efforts:
· 1 driver was arrested and charged with impaired driving-related offences
· 1 roadside was issued during R.I.D.E Check
· 2 seven-day driver’s licence suspensions were issued
· 9 Provincial Offence Notices were issued under the Highway Traffic Act at RIDE checks
Police remind all motorists that impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of serious injury and death on our roadways. Officers remain committed to enforcement and encourage the public to plan ahead by arranging a safe ride home.
Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
