The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a call for service on March 18, 2026, at approximately 11:31 hrs., in the Erieau Marina area after receiving reports of a diver, a 67-year-old male from Chatham, who had not resurfaced while operating in the boat channel.
A coordinated response was initiated involving the Chatham-Kent Police Service, the Chatham-Kent Fire Department and the Ontario Provincial Police Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.
Emergency services attended the scene, secured the area and began search efforts in the waterway. Due to conditions in the channel, specialized equipment and resources were required to assist in the search.
On March 19, 2026, at approximately 08:00 hrs., the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit conducted further search operations and successfully located and recovered the individual from the water; the individual was deceased.
There is no risk to public safety.
