The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 72 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Arrest/Assault – CK26018195
Date: March 13, 2026, Time:12:10hrs., Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
On March 13, 2026, at approximately 12:10 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an assault at a local retail store on St. Clair Street, Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a 27-year-old male from Chatham-Kent had been sleeping inside the store and when an employee attempted to wake him, the individual assaulted the employee. No serious injuries were reported. Officers arrived and arrested the male.
Further investigations revealed that the accused was in breach of his probation order and he was subsequently charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Assault
- Count 2: Failure to Comply with Probation
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where, he was later released with a future court date of April 16, 2026.
Arrest/Impaired-Over 80 – CK26018366
Date: March 13, 2026, Time: 00:40 hrs., Location: Barthe Street, Chatham
On March 13, 2026, at approximately 02:00 hrs., a member of the Chatham‑Kent Police Service arrested a 30‑year‑old male from Chatham following an impaired driving investigation on Barthe Street in Chatham.
The investigation revealed that the accused had been operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol. The individual was transported to the Chatham‑Kent Police Service Headquarters, where breath samples were obtained. The results registered as above the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offences:
- Impaired Operation While Impaired
- Operation having a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was released with a scheduled future court date of April 14, 2026.
Arrest/Threats – CK26018405
Date: March 14, 2026, Time: 08:17hrs., Location: Victoria Road, Ridgetown
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 08:17hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a threat incident at a residence on Victoria Road, Ridgetown.
Officers attended the residence after receiving information that a 27-year-old male accused from Chatham-Kent was threatening to harm a family’s pet dog while holding a knife. Officers located the accused and arrested him.
The accused was charged with the following:
- Uttering Threats- Damage or Injury to Animal
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was released with a scheduled future court date of April 14, 2026.
Assault – CK26018359
Date: March 14, 2026, Time: 00:40 hrs., Location: King Street East, Chatham
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 00:40 hrs., Chatham-Kent Police Service officers responded to a report of an assault. Officers attended a residence on King Street East, Chatham after receiving information about an assault that had taken place on March 13, 2026, at a residence on Princess Street North, Chatham.
Investigations revealed that two individuals, a 43-year-old male from Chatham-Kent and a 48-year-old male, both from Chatham-Kent were assaulted, threatened and prevented from leaving the residence.
Further investigations revealed that during the incident the 43-year-old male victim was struck in the head with a hatchet, resulting in injuries that required medical attention. The accused, a 48-year-old male from Chatham-Kent also attempted to strike the victim with a screwdriver. Emergency Medical Services attended the location and treated the victim.
As a result of the investigation the accused was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Theft Under $5,000
- Count 2: Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Count 3: Assault with a Weapon
- Count 4: Assault Bodily Harm
- Count 5: Assault with a Weapon
- Count 6: Uttering Threats
- Count 7: Forcible Confinement
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is currently being held for bail.
Arrest/Impaired-Over 80 – CK26018477
Date: March 14, 2026, Time: 15:24hrs., Location: Talbot Road, Wheatley
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 15:24 hrs., a member of the Chatham‑Kent Police Service conducted a traffic stop on Talbot Road in Wheatley.
During the interaction, the driver, a 42-year-old female was issued an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand and registered a failure. The individual was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further testing.
Breath samples were obtained, which registered readings above the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offence:
- Count 1: Impaired Operation While Impaired
- Count 2: Operation Having a Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg
The accused was later released with a scheduled future date of April 7, 2026.
Arrest/B&E Residential/TTPA – CK26018480
Date: March 14, 2026, Time: 15:41 hrs., Location: Taylor Ave., Chatham
On March 14, 2026, at approximately 15:41 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a break and enter report on Taylor Avenue, Chatham.
Investigations revealed that, a 54-year-old male homeowner, who had recently evicted two individuals, a 45-year-old male and a 28-year-old male from Chatham-Kent from the property, attended the residence to check on it. Upon arrival, the homeowner encountered the two individuals inside of the residence.
Officers attended the location and arrested the individuals. Both were issued Provincial Offence Notices for Trespass- Enter When Prohibited and were released.
Arrest/Weapons – CK26018657 CK26018779
Date: March 15, 2026, Time: 21:29 hrs., Location: McGregor St., Blenheim
On March 15, 2026, at approximately 21:29 hrs., officers of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a disturbance involving a group of teens on McGregor Street, Blenheim.
Investigations revealed that a group of youths was causing a disturbance and that one individual was seen brandishing a knife. Officers attended the area and located the group on John Street North, Blenheim.
As a result of the investigation, a 16-year-old male from Blenheim was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- Count 1: Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was later released with a scheduled court date of May 6, 2026.
