The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.

Theft/Possession – CK26001744

Date: January 8, 2026, Time: 9:28 hrs, Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham

On January 8, 2026, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a theft complaint at a business located on Grand Avenue West, Chatham.

Investigations revealed that a male stole merchandise and fled the store through a rear exit on a bicycle.

Officers located the accused, a short time later on Robertson Avenue. Through further investigation and a review of surveillance footage, the accused was identified as a 39-year-old male from Chatham. It was also determined that the individual was the accused in a previous theft incident on December 29, 2025 (CK26001749).

As a result of the investigation, the accused was charged with the following offences:

  • Count 1: Theft Under $5,000
  • Count 2: Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Count 3: Theft Under $5,000
  • Count 4: Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Count 5: Failure to Comply with Probation Order

He was transported to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre, where his next video court appearance is scheduled for January 15, 2026.

Warrants – CK26001816/RM26000121

Date: January 8, 2026, Time: 15:07 hrs, Location: Victoria Street, Thamesville

On November 7, 2025, at approximately 18:25 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a vehicle collision in a parking lot on Keil Drive, Chatham (CK25067312).

Investigations revealed that a pickup truck had driven onto the curb and struck a business before fleeing the scene. There were no reported injuries and no major structural damage to the business.

Through investigation, the driver, a 50-year-old female from Chatham-Kent, was also prohibited from entering the entering the property, was operating motor vehicle while under suspension and fled the scene following the collision.

As a result of the investigation, officers formed reasonable grounds to charge the accused with the following offences:  

  • Count 1: Dangerous Operation
  • Count 2: Fail to Report an Accident
  • Count 3: Enter Premises When Entry Prohibited
  • Count 4: Drive While Under Suspension

A warrant was issued for her arrest. On November 10, 2025, the accused was located and arrested. She was released with a court date of November 27, 2025, which she failed to attend. A warrant was issued for her arrest (RM26000121).

On January 8, 2026, at approximately 15:07 hrs, the accused was located and arrested on Victoria Street, Thamesville on the strength of an outstanding bench warrant. She was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where she is currently being held for bail.

Arrest/Fail to Comply – CK26001797

Date: January 8, 2026, Time: 18:26 hrs, Location: Victoria Street, Thamesville

On January 8, 2026, at approximately 18:26 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a dog attack at Victoria Street, Thamesville.

Investigations revealed that a 55-year-old male from Chatham was bitten while attempting to separate his dog from an unrestrained dog that attacked his dog during a walk. The male did not require additional medical attention, however, his dog sustained injuries and required medical treatment.

During the investigation, officers identified the owner of the unrestrained dog as a 50-year-old female from Chatham-Kent. Further investigation also revealed that the female was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with her probation order.

She was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where she is currently held for bail.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind residents of the importance of responsible pet ownership and ensuring dogs are properly restrained to prevent injuries.

Impaired – CK26001935

Date: January 9, 2026, Time: 00:39 hrs, Location: McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg

On January 9, 2026, at approximately 00:39 hrs, a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver in the drive-thru of a business located on McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg.

Officers located the vehicle and the driver, a 34-year-old male from Walpole, displayed signs of being impaired. The individual was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters for further breath testing, where he provided two samples above the legal limit.

He was charged with the following offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Over 80 mg

The accused was later released with conditions and a future court date of January 22, 2026.
