The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 120 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Theft– CK25077227
Date: December 24, 2025, Time:12:33 hrs., Location: McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg
On December 24, 2025, at approximately 12:33 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a reported theft at a retail store on McNaughton Avenue, Wallaceburg.
Officers were contacted by a store representative who reported that a female had exited the store with unpaid merchandise. Investigations revealed that the suspect was last observed walking northbound on McNaughton Avenue.
At approximately 12:37 p.m., officers located a female matching the description near McNaughton Avenue and Gillard Street. Upon police approach, the individual dropped a bag, which was found to contain various merchandise.
The female was identified as a 32-year-old woman from Walpole Island. She was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Theft Under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where she was released with conditions and a future court date of January 21, 2026
Assault – CK25077309
Date: December 24, 2025, Time:21:10 hrs, Location: Princess Street South, Chatham
On December 24, 2025, at approximately 21:10 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a reported assault at a residence in Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a 39-year-old woman from Chatham had been physically assaulted by a 22-year-old male from Chatham who grabbed her by the throat and choked her. During the incident, the male also made threats to cause bodily harm. The victim did not require medical treatment. Officers were advised before arrival that the accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant for bail violations.
Upon police arrival, the accused became agitated and uncooperative, resisting officers during the arrest and was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters. The accused also assaulted an officer by spitting during the booking process.
As a result of the investigation accused was arrested and charged with:
- Assault Causing Bodily Harm – choke, suffocate, or strangle
- Utter Threats – Cause death or bodily harm
- Resisting a Peace Officer
- Assaulting a Peace Officer
The accused was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 29, 2025.
Arrest, B&E–CK25077436/CK25076955
Date: December 25, 2025, Time:16:40 hrs, Location: Richmond Street, Chatham
On December 25, 2025, at approximately 16:40 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service investigated a break and enter at a secure building located on Richmond Street in Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a male suspect gained entry to the building while wearing a disguise and stole multiple property-related items.
Later that day, officers stopped a male riding a bicycle matching surveillance footage related to the incident. During a search incident to arrest, police located break-and-enter tools, stolen property belonging to various companies as well as ammunition. The accused was also found to be in breach of existing release conditions.
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old male from Chatham was arrested and charged with:
- Break and Enter to Commit Theft Over $5,000
- Disguise with Intent
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime x 2
- Possession of Break-In Instruments
- Failure to Comply with a Release Order
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and is currently being held for bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 30, 2025.
Arrest, Assault (IPV)–CK25077490
Date: December 25, 2025, Time: 23:43 hrs, Location: Ridgetown
On December 25, 2025, at approximately 23:43 hrs,members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a reported domestic dispute at a residence on George Street in Ridgetown.
The investigation revealed that a verbal argument between an intimate partner couple escalated into a physical altercation where a 33-year-old female from Ridgetown punched a 39-year-old male victim from Chatham in the face. As a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with the following offence:
- Assault
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with conditions and a scheduled future court date of February 2, 2026.
Arrest, Weapons, IPV –CK25077605
Date: December 26, 2025, Time:17:25 hrs, Location: Chatham
On December 26, 2025, at approximately 17:25 hrs, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an Intimate Partner Violence report at a residence in Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a dispute between a 26-year-old female accused and a 31-year-old male victim, both from Chatham escalated when she assaulted the male using a set of keys, causing injury.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with
- Assault with a Weapon
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of January 27, 2026.
MVC–CK25077625
Date: December 26, 2025, Time: 21:49 hrs, Location: Kingsway Drive, Chatham
On December 26, 2025, at approximately 21:49 hrs, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a vehicle in the water at the boat launch near Kingsway Drive in Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a single occupant had driven a vehicle down the boat launch and into the river. Emergency services, including fire and EMS, attended and safely removed the driver from the vehicle. The driver was not injured.
The vehicle was partially submerged and later removed by a towing service.
The driver, a 48-year-old woman from Chatham, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Careless Driving.
Arrest, Impaired/Refusal- CK25077878
Date: December 27, 2025, Time:02:38 hrs, Location: St Clair Street, Chatham
On December 27, 2025, at approximately 2:38 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver at a restaurant on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Staff reported concerns about the driver and delayed the vehicle until police arrived. Upon police interaction, the driver was read an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand and refused to comply.
As a result, a 24-year-old male from Chatham-Kent was arrested and charged with the following:
- Refusal to Comply with a Demand
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and was later released with conditions and a scheduled future court date on February 3, 2026.
Arrest, Impaired- CK25077882
Date: December 27, 2025, Time:02:52 hrs. Location: Duskridge Road, Chatham
On December 27, 2025, at approximately 2:52 hrs., officers of the Chatham-Kent Police Service observed a vehicle driving erratically in the area of Keil Trail and Duskridge Road in Chatham.
Police followed the vehicle, which pulled into a residence on Duskridge Road. The male driver refused to identify himself and attempted to enter the residence. When officers attempted to arrest the individual, a brief struggle occurred.
The driver was taken into custody and later provided breath samples registering as failed.
As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old male from Chatham-Kent was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
- Resist Peace Officer
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was later released with conditions and a future court date of January 15, 2026.
Trespassing- CK25077949
Date: December 28, 2025, Time: 11:54 hrs, Location: St. Clair Street
On December 28, 2025, at approximately 11:54 hrs, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of suspicious activity at a retail store on St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Store staff reported two individuals removing tags and opening packaging with the intent to conceal merchandise. Officers located both individuals inside the store with merchandise in their possession. All items were recovered, and no theft occurred.
Further investigation revealed that the accused, identified as a 31-year-old female and a 63-year-old male, both from Chatham, had been trespassed from the property earlier this month.
As a result, both individuals were issued Provincial Offence Notices for Trespassing and escorted from the property.
Impaired/Over 80 – CK25077878
Date: December 28, 2025, Time:02:39 hrs, Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham
On December 28, 2025, at approximately 2:39 hrs, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an impaired driver at a restaurant located on St. Clair Street, Chatham.
The driver, a 24-year-old male from Chatham-Kent, displayed signs of alcohol consumption. The driver was given an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand but refused to comply.
As a result, the accused was arrested and charged with:
- Refusal to Comply with a Demand
The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was released with conditions and a scheduled court date of February 3, 2026.
