October 10-13, 2025, marked ‘Operation Impact’, a national campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This campaign was a police initiative designed to remind people that an essential part of enforcement is saving lives and reducing injuries on our roadways. Educating the public on safe driving practices was a priority. The focus was on behaviours that put drivers, passengers and other road users most at risk: impaired driving, seat belt use, and all aspects related to aggressive and distracted driving. All enforcement agencies across the country have been invited to participate.
This initiative was strategically scheduled over the Thanksgiving weekend, at a time when more people travel and traffic collisions are more frequent. Here in Chatham-Kent, we have witnessed deaths and serious injuries related to vehicle collisions. We’ve lost moms, dads, sisters, brothers, loved ones, co-workers and neighbours. That is why, in support of ‘Operation Impact,’ officers focused enforcement efforts on the four most common collision-related issues mentioned.
As a result, officers conducted multiple RIDE spot checks throughout the municipality and a total of 318 tickets were issued for various offences. Additionally, 2 drivers were charged with a 3-day license suspension due blood alcohol between 0.05 and 0.079.
The Chatham-Kent Police would like to remind motorists that although this campaign has come to an end, road safety remains a priority and officers will continue to focus on behaviours that put all road users at risk.
Road safety is literally in your hands, so please don’t let the impact of your decisions be a collision on our roads.
