Chatham-Kent, ON – On September 23, 2025, at approximately 15:25 hrs, a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer, Sergeant Fraser Leontowicz responded to a 911 call involving a two-week old infant experiencing a medical emergency.
The officer arrived within two minutes of the call and found the infant unresponsive. Drawing on his first aid and CPR training, Sergeant Leontowicz immediatel1y executed lifesaving measures as every second mattered. Within moments, the infant regained consciousness and was alert.
The Emergency Communications Operators (ECO) also played a vital role in coordinating the emergency response, while Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived shortly after and continued care of the infant before transporting the baby to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance hospital for further treatment. The infant is expected to make a full recovery.
What began as a frightening and emotional situation ended positively thanks to the quick action, training and dedication of this officer.
The family of the infant expressed great gratitude for the support received stating:
“Within minutes, I had police officers at my home, ready to help. They were awesome,” said the infant’s mother.
This swift response also highlights the strong teamwork between police officers, paramedics and emergency services in our community. It also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of training, bravery and true community service preparedness when every second matters.
