The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events, including arrests, investigations, and other notable occurrences.

CK25043885- Arrest, Theft/Resist

Date: July 24, 2025, Time: 21:34hrs, Location: St. Clair Street, Chatham

On July 24, 2025, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a theft in progress at a retail store in Chatham.

The suspect, a 49-year-old male from Chatham was observed leaving the store with a cart containing stolen merchandise and fled the scene on a bicycle. Officers located he suspect nearby and attempted to place him under arrest. The suspect resisted, resulting in a brief struggle before being arrested.

The individual was charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Theft under $5,000
  • Count 2: Possession of Property Under $5,000
  • Count 3: Assaulting Peace Officer with Intent to Resist Arrest

He was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters. The individual was later released with a scheduled court date August 25, 2025.

CK25043892- Arrest, Breach of Undertaking

Date: July 24, 2025, Time: 21:53hrs, Location: Chatham

On July 24, 2025, at approximately 21:53hrs the Chatham-Kent Police responded to an Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) incident involving two individuals. The incident was reported by a complainant who heard loud noises and had safety concerns.

Upon arrival at the residence, officers spoke to 21-year-old female from Chatham, who was evasive and reluctant to allow police entry. Officers also observed a 42-year-old male from Chatham, inside the residence, who was in violation of court-ordered conditions between both individuals.

Despite several attempts to gain voluntary access, the female continued to deny entry. After attempts to gain entry officers utilized forced entry and located the male hiding inside in the residence.

Upon further investigation, officers also learned that the female individual also possessed conditions not to communicate, directly, or indirectly with the male individual or go to any place of residence, education or employment where the male individual may be present.

As a result, police arrested the 21-year-old female and charged her with the following:

  • Count 1: Failing to Comply with Undertaking

Officers also charged the 42-year-old male with the following:

  • Count 1: Facilitating a Breach

Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where they are currently being held for bail.
