The Chatham-Kent Police Service Responded to Fatal Water Related Incident

 On June 23, 2025, in the early morning hours, the Chatham-Kent Police Service along with emergency services personnel responded to a water-related incident at the Third Street Bridge in Chatham. Two females, 17-years and 15-years of age, reportedly jumped into the water from the bridge. The 17-year-old female did not resurface.

Emergency services, including the Chatham-Kent Police, fire and marine units, responded immediately. The 15-year-old was safely assisted from the water by first responders. A coordinated search effort was launched, including the use of aerial drone support (UAS), the Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue boat, Chatham Kent Police Marine Unit, members of the Emergency Response Team and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) helicopter and Dive Team.

Later that day the body of the 17-year-old was recovered. At this time the incident is not considered suspicious.
