The Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to a variety of incidents over the past 24 hours. Below is a summary of the key events.
Warrants– CK26020671
Date: March 23, 2026, Time: 3:47 hrs., Location: Gillard Street, Wallaceburg
On December 3, 2025, at approximately 3:47 hrs., members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a suspicious person on Margaret Avenue, Wallaceburg.
Investigations revealed that a male had been attempting to check door handles of parked vehicles before entering an SUV. Officers located the accused, a 21-year-old male from Chatham-Kent inside of the vehicle.
The accused identified himself to police and stated that he was allowed inside as he knew the owner of the vehicle; however after consultation with the registered owner it was determined that the two did not know each other.
As a result of the investigation, the accused was arrested and charged with the following:
- Count 1: Theft Under $5,000
He was subsequently, transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters where he was released with conditions and a scheduled court date for December 29, 2025. The accused failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On March 23, 2026, at approximately 14:58 hrs., the accused was located on Gillard Street, Wallaceburg. He was arrested on the strength of his outstanding endorsed warrant. The individual was later released with conditions and a scheduled court date of April 27, 2026.
IPV Assault – CK26020655
Date: March 23, 2026, Time: 14:58 hrs., Location: Chatham
On March 23, 2026, at approximately 14:58 hrs., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an intimate partner violence incident at a residence in Chatham.
Investigations revealed that a physical altercation had occurred between two individuals, a 70-year-old male accused from Ridgetown and a 63-year-old female victim from Chatham. Further investigations also revealed multiple historical assaults by the accused. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by Emergency Medical Services
The accused was arrested and charged with the following:
- Count 1: Assault to Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, Suffocate or Strangle
- Count 2: Assault
The accused was released with a scheduled court date of May 19, 2026.
Bail Violations/Warrants – CK26020729/CK26020731/CK26020755
Date: March 23, 2026, Time: 22:36 hrs., Location: Adelaide Street South, Chatham
On March 23, 2026, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of an unwanted male attempting to gain entry to a residence on Adelaide Street in Chatham.
Upon arrival, officers observed a male knocking on the front door and attempting to make contact with individuals inside the residence.
The accused was identified as a 36-year-old male from Orford Township. Further investigations also revealed that he possessed two separate court conditions prohibiting him from any direct or indirect communication with a 34-year-old female from Chatham.
Subsequently, the accused was charged with the following offences:
- Count 1: Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Count 2: Fail to Comply with Undertaking
The individual was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he is currently held for bail.
