Date: February 27, 2026, Time: 00:13 hrs., Location: Grand Avenue West, Chatham

On February 28, 2026, at approximately 00:14 hours, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a disturbance at a business located on Grand Avenue West in Chatham involving patrons and security staff.

Upon arrival, officers learned that security staff were attempting to escort a male patron from the premises when an altercation occurred. No injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, two individuals, a 21-year-old female and a 26-year-old male, both from Chatham, were arrested and charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Assault

Both accused were transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where they were later released with conditions and provided a future court date of May 25, 2026.

Impaired–CK26014814

Date: February 27, 2026, Time: 00:13 hrs., Location: McNaughton Avenue East, Chatham

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 19:09 hours, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a vehicle complaint at the intersection of McNaughton Avenue East and Michener Road in Chatham-Kent.

Investigations revealed that a vehicle was unable to maintain speed, was swerving across all lanes and had nearly caused multiple collisions.

At approximately 19:19 hours, officers located the vehicle on Hedge Maple Path in Chatham. The driver produced his licence, which confirmed his identity as a 47-year-old male from Chatham.

Through further investigation, officers formed reasonable grounds to believe the driver was operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol.

The accused was arrested and transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where further breath tests were conducted which registered above the legal limit.

He was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired,
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus,

He was later released with conditions and a future court date of April 27, 2026.

Mischief: CK26014757

Date: February 27, 2026, Time: 15:09 hrs. Location: 43 Harvey Street (Lower Unit), Chatham

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 15:09 hours, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence located on Harvey Street in Chatham.

Upon arrival, officers observed that the door to the residence had been forced open, with minor damage noted to the door paneling.

Through the use of surveillance footage, the accused was identified as a 44-year-old male from Chatham-Kent.

A short time later, officers located and arrested the accused. He was subsequently charged with the following:

  • Count 1: Mischief Under $5,000

The accused was transported to the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters, where he was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Break and Enter CK26015084
Date: February 27, 2026, Time: 20:37 hrs. Location: Raleigh Street, Chatham

On February 27, 2026, at approximately 20:37 hours, the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of suspicious activity at a vacant commercial building located at Raleigh Street in Chatham.

Investigations revealed that flashlights were observed by a complainant.

Officers attended the area and located four youths, two 17-year-olds and two 14-year-olds, all from Chatham near the location.

Through investigation, police determined that no entry had been gained to the building. None of the youths were found in possession of flashlights. There was no damage to the property and nothing was reported stolen.

All four individuals were cautioned regarding vacant properties and warned not to access them.

Traffic Enforcement – CK26015153

Date: March 1, 2026, Time: 04:10 hrs. Location: St. Clair Road, Chatham

On March 1, 2026, at approximately 04:10 hours, a Chatham-Kent Police Service officer conducted a traffic stop as part of proactive traffic enforcement on St. Clair Road, Chatham.

A 22-year-old male from Wallaceburg was stopped for speeding. As a result, the driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice under the Highway Traffic Act.

Date: February 27, 2026, Time: 19:50 hrs. Location: Third Street, Chatham

On February 28, 2026, at approximately 01:21 hours members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded a report of theft at a retail store on Queen Street North, Tilbury.

Investigations revealed that a suspect entered the store, selected merchandise and exited without making an attempt to complete a purchase.

Through investigative measures, a description of the suspect was obtained by police. While patrolling, officers observed a motorcycle operator whose description matched that of the suspect. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled the scene.

A short time later, the motorcycle was located on its side on Middle Line, east of King and Whittle Road. The driver was not at the scene.

Through further investigation, at approximately 05:20 hours, the Ontario Provincial Police Essex Detachment advised they had made contact with the accused. The accused was located on Talbot Street South, Essex.

Through investigation, officers confirmed the suspect’s involvement and found that he did not possess a valid motorcycle licence or insurance at the time of the incident Subsequently, he was charged with the following offences:

  • Count 1: Flight from Peace Officer
  • Count 2: Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
  • Count 3: Fail to Report Accident, contrary to Section 199(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Count 4: Drive Motor Vehicle – No Proper Licence, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Count 5: Owner Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance, contrary to Section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance     

On March 1, 2026, the accused surrendered himself at the Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was released with a future court date of April 27, 2026.
