Constable Jodie Foster, Investigative Support Branch
Reflecting on my 30-year journey in Policing
My career in Policing started well before my official hiring date of January 3rd, 1995 with the Chatham-Kent Police Service. I am born and raised in the Chatham-Kent area.
Policing is a lifestyle, specifically being a female in a male dominated field it has come with several challenges and even more privileges.
As I approach my retirement, after 30 years of Policing with the Chatham-Kent Police Service, I find myself pondering stereotypes and hurtles we as females have had to overcome and the positive strides forward we have accomplished. Why Policing? Why not? The road needed to be paved and as a person, female and a member of this community I believe in inclusion, mentorship and awareness along with public safety and education.
Within my successful career, I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest co-workers, community partners and residents within my community. I have been fortunate to serve in various specialized units, including Bike Patrol, SOCO officer, HELP Team Member, Marine Unit Patrol, Negotiator, Intoxlyzer Technician, SFST General Investigator, Criminal Investigation Branch, and Child Abuse Investigator.
It is with great insight and hope for the up and coming women interested in this amazing career of policing that hopefully, after 30 years of my Policing career we walk or skip over barriers, leaving no longer a need to scale the wall to overcome any obstacle.
