Chatham-Kent, Ontario: The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 290 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Eleven people were arrested and six were on outstanding warrants.
Man Arrested for Theft CK24041705
At 2:54 p.m., police responded to a theft investigation at a retail business on St. Clair Street, near Pioneer Line, in Chatham.
Upon arrival officers learned the man entered the store and filled two carts of merchandise. The man left the store with the merchandise without making any attempts to pay for the items.
By using the information received regarding vehicle and direction of travel, officers were able to locate the vehicle on Highway 40 and conducted a traffic stop south of Claymore Line. During the interaction, the man provided the officer with a false name. Once he was positively identified, the officer learned the man was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court.
Further investigation revealed a female passenger was also wanted on an outstanding warrant.
The 40-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: theft, possession of stolen property, obstructing police, failing to attend court, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
The 41-year-old Walpole Island woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where she was released with conditions and a future court date of October 7, 2024. She is currently facing the following charges: three counts of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited.
Man Arrested for Theft CK24041750
At 6:15 p.m., police responded to a suspicious vehicle parked by the Thames River on Thames Street in Chatham. Details of the vehicle were provided, and it was confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from Windsor. Officers were also advised the vehicle was occupied.
Officers arrived and attempted to arrest the man. After a brief foot chase and struggle, the man was taken into custody.
Upon a search incident to arrest, the man was found in possession of numerous bank cards.
The 28-year-old Ontario man was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: possession of stolen property under $5000 and resisting arrest.
The investigation is on-going and may result in further charges.
Man Arrested for Failing to Attend Court CK24041789
At 10:42 p.m., police observed the man on Queen Street in Chatham. The officer recognized the man from previous encounters and attempted to stop him.
After a short foot chase, the man was taken into custody.
The 30-year-old Chatham man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: assault, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, possession of stolen property, theft and two counts of failing to attend court.
Man Arrested for Assault CK24041870
On August 30, 2024, at 2:34 a.m., police responded to Taylor Avenue in Chatham for a disturbance.
Officers learned the woman and the man engaged in a verbal argument resulting in the man damaging the woman’s property and assaulting her. Further investigation revealed the man was on conditions not to communicate or be in the vicinity of the woman.
The man left prior to police arrival but was located a short distance away and arrested.
The 32-year-old Wallaceburg man was transported to police headquarters, where he was held pending a bail hearing. He is currently facing the following charges: failing to comply with a release order, assault, obstructing the police and two counts of mischief.
