The Chatham-Kent Police Service has created bicycle registration to help protect bicycles owned by residents of Chatham-Kent. This program will increase the chances of having your bicycle returned to you if it is stolen or lost and recovered by our police service.
It is important to remember that you still have to make a police report if your bike is stolen.
BICYCLE REGISTRY
We are proud to offer this additional service to help protect your bicycle from theft. To prevent theft of your bicycle we recommend investing in a good quality lock and securing your bicycle and wheels to an immovable object.
Most bicycles come marked with a serial number or they have distinguishing features. If yours does not have a serial number, engrave an identifying number on the frame. You can also mark your wheels and components with the same number to make it even easier to identify.
REGISTER YOUR BICYCLE OR EBIKE
Sometimes the most proficient thief can bypass weak inexpensive locks or come upon your bicycle during the “ONE” instance you forget to lock it. The Chatham-Kent Police Service recovers hundreds of stolen and abandoned bicycles every year but is often unable to identify the owner because the theft is often unreported.
Additionally, sometimes bicycles are reported stolen however citizens did not have any serial numbers recorded to report to Police at the time of the theft.
Registering your bicycle will greatly assist in its recovery if stolen.
