The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 176 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Update: Robbery in Chatham CK18008968
As previous released, on February 25, 2018 around 6:00 a.m. a driver from Courtesy Cab picked up a man at the bus shelter on Pine Street. Upon approaching the intersection of Eugenie Street and John Street, the man told the driver to stop. At this time, the man assaulted the driver while demanding money. The man did not get any money and fled on foot down John Street towards Tweedsmuir Avenue. The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated by EMS. Officers examined the scene and evidence was seized for forensic analysis.
In May 2018, police received information from the Centre of Forensic Sciences stating that a DNA profile was generated and matched that of a local man.
Early this morning, police located the man and he was arrested. Stuart Sworin, 51 years, of Queen Street in Chatham has been charged with robbery. He was released pending a future court date of August 10, 2018.
Man Charged with Breaching his Curfew CK18031218
On June 23, 2018 the man was released from Court with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was to obey a daily curfew of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
Around 3:30 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed the man walking on Grand Avenue in Chatham and going into a variety store.
The 27-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with failing to comply. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Theft CK18031135
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Downtown Chatham Centre.
The man fled the area on foot however was taken into custody on Murray Street. Upon being searched incident to arrest, a small plastic baggie containing hydromorphone tablets was found in his mouth.
Dakota Gross, 20 years, of Coverdale Street in Chatham has been charged with theft under $5000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and drug possession. He was released pending a future court date of July 26, 2018.
Man Charged with Domestic Related Offences CK18031181
Last night, police received information about a domestic disturbance that occurred the previous night at a residence in Wallaceburg.
Early this morning, police located the man and he was arrested. The 24-year-old Wallaceburg man has been charged with assault with a weapon, two counts of assault and two counts of mischief under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Youth Arrested on Outstanding Warrant CK18031084
Yesterday morning, police located a teen who was wanted for breaching conditions of his Probation Order.
The 15-year-old Chatham youth was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply. He was transported to the Courthouse pending a bail hearing.
