The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 156 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Ten people were arrested.
Man Charged with Break and Enter CK18030610
Just before 7:30 p.m. last night, the man was observed inside a secure compound on Thames Street in Chatham. Officers located the man behind a trailer on the lot. The man was arrested as he had no lawful reason for being inside this work area.
The 36-year-old Moraviantown man has been charged with break and enter. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Property and Drug Related Offences CK18030665
Around 2:45 a.m. this morning, police observed the man riding a suspected stolen bicycle on Grand Avenue in Chatham. Through investigation, police confirmed that the bicycle was reported stolen from a residence in Chatham back in April. He was also in possession of a large tool case filled with wrenches and ratchet sets. The man was arrested for being in possession of break in tools and stolen property. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, hydromorphone, marihuana, digital scale and a quantity of cash.
Joshua Newcombe, 30 years, of Wellington Street in Chatham has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, being in possession of break in instruments and five counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking. He has been released pending a future court date of July 26, 2018.
Man Charged with being in Possession of Break in Tools CK18030670
Just before 4:00 a.m. police attended the area of McNaughton Avenue and Sandys Street in Chatham in regards to a suspicious man.
Officers located the man on Sandys Street in possession of a bicycle stolen from a residence on Hedge Maple Path in June. The man was also found to be in possession of a socket set, circular saw in a duffle bag and backpack containing bolt cutters, adjustable wrench, box cutter, flashlight and pry bar.
Colin Warnock, 27 years, of McNaughton Avenue in Chatham has been charged with being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and being in possession of break in instruments. He has been released pending a future court date of July 24, 2018.
CK18030548 – Yesterday morning, police located a man wanted in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Real Canadian Superstore in June. Parker Grooms, 19 years, of Grant Street in Chatham was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 1, 2018.
CK18030608 – Last night, police arrested a man wanted in connection with stealing a $30 pair of Skull Candy earbuds from the Real Canadian Superstore on May 18, 2017. Michael Paolone, 28 years, of Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg has been charged with theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of July 17, 2018.
CK18030635 – Last night, police arrested a woman who was wanted for breaching her release conditions. The 34-year-old woman has been charged with failing to comply with her court imposed curfew. She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
CK18030639 – Last night, police located a man wanted for breaching conditions of his Probation Order. Matthew Morrison, 31 years, of County Road 8 in Staples was arrested and charged with two counts of failing to comply. He was released pending a future court date of July 24, 2018.
Youths Charged with Theft CK18030560
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart in Chatham. Two of the three male youths fled on foot after stealing various items valued at approximately $60. The first youth was apprehended by police in a field behind Staples. The second youth was not located. The third male stayed with the Loss Prevention Officer at Walmart.
The 14-year-old and 15-year-old youths, both from Chatham, have been charged with theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. They were released to their parents pending a future court date of July 23, 2018.
A warrant has been issued for the other 15-year-old Chatham youth.
Man Charged with Assault CK18030573
Yesterday afternoon, police responded to a family dispute on Duke Street in Wallaceburg.
A 28-year-old Wallaceburg man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault. He was released pending a future court date of July 24, 2018.
Dog Owner Charged CK18030535
Yesterday morning, police received information that a dog was left in a car in a parking lot on Keil Drive in Chatham. Due to the hot and humid temperature, the owner, a 58-year-old Chatham man was charged with leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle when weather conditions not suitable, contrary to the Responsible Animal Ownership 93-2015 By-Law.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that should you see an animal left in a hot car, please call PAWR, OSPCA at 310-SPCA (7722) or your local police service. Owners found to be in contravention of the By-Law may be charged and issued a $365 fine.
Break and Enter in Morpeth CK18030643
Sometime between June 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. and June 2, 2018 at 10:30 p.m. unknown suspect(s) forced their way into a workshop on McKinlay Road.
Once inside, the suspect(s) stole:
– Miller MIG welder (blue)
– JMar 5hp air compressor (red and white)
– Coleman generator (black)
– Emglo 5hp portable air compressor (blue)
– Stihl pole saw (orange and white)
– Stihl cement saw (orange and white)
– Stihl chainsaw (orange and white
– DeWalt 18v drill (yellow and black)
Total value of the theft has been estimated at approximately $25,000.
