The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 175 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Execution of Drug Warrant in Chatham CK18001658
Last night, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Section, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team, executed the Warrant at a residence on Forest Street.
A systematic search of the residence recovered the following, which was seized by police:
– multiple digital scales with drug residue;
– drug packaging material;
– a large amount of surveillance equipment; and
The total street value of drugs seized was over $2,400. In addition, a Jeep liberty was seized as offence related property.
As a result, a 29-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with the following offences:
– Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Cocaine)
– Possession for the purpose of trafficking (Methamphetamine)
Through investigation, officers learned that in April 2017, the man had been released from custody with conditions to abstain from the consumption or possession of drugs. Therefore, he was additionally arrested and charged with failing to comply.
The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Theft under $5000 CK18001597
On Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. the man entered Home Hardware on Keil Drive S. in Chatham. Video surveillance captured the man select a saw from the shelf, place it inside his overalls and then exit the store, making no attempt to pay for the item. Police were then called.
Through investigation the man was identified by police.
Last night at 7:00 p.m. Diedrich Doerksen, 34 years, of David Street in Ridgetown was located at his house, arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of January 31, 2018.
Man Charged with Theft over $5000 CK17045309
Sometime between November 21, 2017 and November 22, 2017 a utility trailer that was parked on a piece of property in Kent Bridge was broken into. Damage to the trailer was estimated at $50 and various construction tools / equipment, valued at $7500 were stolen.
Through investigation, police identified the man responsible for the damage and theft.
Last night at 11:00 p.m. the 27-year-old Chatham man was located at his residence and arrested. He was charged with mischief under $5000 and theft over $5000. The man was then transported to CKPS Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Failing to Attend for Fingerprints RM17003886
On November 2, 2017 the man was charged with mischief under $5000. He was required to attend the Chatham Court House on November 30, 2017 to be fingerprinted for the mentioned offence, but failed to do so. Attempts made to locate the man were unsuccessful and therefore, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Yesterday at 3:00 p.m. the 20-year-old Bayfield man turned himself in at the Chatham police station where he was arrested. He was charged with failing to appear for fingerprints and later released with a court date of February 2, 2018.
