The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 178 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Five people were arrested.
Man and Woman Charged with Theft under $5000 CK18001417
Yesterday at 3:00 p.m. the man and woman were inside Giant Tiger on Grand Avenue W. in Chatham. After placing numerous items into a Giant Tiger cart, they exited the store making no attempt to pay for the merchandise valued at $80. Police were called.
An officer located the pair together on Grand Avenue W. The man was on a bicycle and the woman was with the Giant Tiger cart still full of the stolen items. Through investigation it was learned that the man had stolen the bicycle he was on from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance earlier in the day. The theft of the bike was captured on video surveillance at CKHA.
At 3:15 p.m. the 33-year-old Walpole Island man was arrested and charged with two counts of theft under $5000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was transported to CKPS Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
At the same time, the 33-year-old Wallaceburg woman was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. She was also transported to CKPS Headquarters and then later released with a court date of January 31, 2018.
Drug Warrant Executed in Chatham CK18001433
Yesterday, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Intelligence Section, assisted by the Critical Incident Response Team, executed the Warrant at a residence on Delaware Avenue in the city of Chatham. A man and a woman were located inside.
A systematic search of the residence recovered cannabis marihuana, and cannabis resin. Also located were contaminated electronic digital scales, contaminated drug paraphernalia and $1,330.00 in currency.
The 36-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with the following offences:
– Possession of a controlled substance (Cannabis Resin)
– Possession of a controlled substance (Cannabis Marihuana)
The 28-year-old woman was arrested and charged with the following offence:
– Possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine)
They were both transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters and later released with a court date of February 1, 2018.
Man Arrested on Warrant CK18001520
Early this morning at 2:30 a.m. an officer on general patrol stopped the man who was riding a bicycle on St. Clair Street and McKeough Avenue in Chatham. Through investigation it was learned that the man had a warrant for his arrest.
At 2:35 a.m. the 43-year-old Chatham man was arrested on the warrant and charged with two counts of failing to comply with probation.
He was transported to CKPS Headquarters and later released with a court date of January 26, 2018.
Break and Enter CK18001428
Sometime between Sunday, January 7, 2018 and Wednesday, January 10, 2018 an unknown suspect(s) broke the rear glass door of a residence on Dover Street in Chatham. Once inside, the house was ransacked and televisions, along with personal items were stolen. Damage is estimated at $50.
