The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 114 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Four people were arrested.
Man Charged with Dangerous Driving CK19005802
Yesterday morning, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg with no rear license plate. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Elm Drive, however the man failed to stop and continued driving at a high rate of speed while disobeying stop signs at Turnbull Avenue and Chestnut Drive. The man finally pulled over as he drove back onto Dufferin Avenue.
The man was arrested and upon being searched was found to be in possession of crystal methamphetamine.
Through investigation, the officer further learned that the man was not licensed and the front plate attached to the vehicle was not registered to any vehicle.
Amos Ermatinger, 44 years, of Austin Road on Walpole Island has been charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, use plate not authorized for the vehicle, driving with no license and drug possession. He was released pending a future court date of February 28, 2019.
Man Charged with Failing to Comply CK19005909
On May 4, 2018 the man was released from Court with several conditions. One of those conditions stated that he was not to be outside his residence with alcohol in his system.
Just before 5:00 a.m. this morning, an officer on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on St. Clair Street in Chatham. The officer caught up to the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Joseph Street.
Through investigation, the officer suspected the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol. A roadside breath test was administered, which confirmed the officer’s suspicions. The man was arrested for breaching his release conditions by having alcohol in his system. Upon being searched incident to arrest, the man was also found to be in possession of cocaine.
The 40-year-old Chatham man has been charged with failing to comply and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Man Charged with Driving with No Insurance CK19005883
Last night, an officer on general patrol in Tilbury observed a green Mercedes travelling on Queen Street. A query of the license plates revealed that they were expired and registered to a red Jeep.
The officer initiated a traffic stop near Mill Street. The man could not produce insurance for the vehicle and was charged accordingly.
The license plates were seized and the vehicle was towed.
The 26-year-old Merlin man will be required to attend Provincial Offences Court on April 2, 2019.
Traffic Enforcement CK19005827
Yesterday afternoon, police conducted traffic enforcement on McGeorge Street near John Street in Blenheim.
One motorist was charged with disobeying a stop sign while another was charged with driving while under suspension.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind drivers that failing to stop for a stop sign could cost you $110 fine and 3 demerit points. Please remember that you must come to a full and complete stop before proceeding.
