The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 163 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Nine people were arrested.
Man Charged with Theft under $5000 – CK19001687
Yesterday at 9:41 a.m. the man entered Sobeys located at 215 Park Avenue W. in Chatham. While inside the grocery store, he concealed packages of striploin steaks and fruit inside a backpack and then left the store making no attempt to pay for the food valued at $95. Police were called and the man was located.
At 9:55 a.m. the 53-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was searched incident to arrest and drugs were found on him. Therefore, he was additionally arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
Wallaceburg Woman Arrested on Warrant – CK19001723
On December 4, 2018 the woman was released from police custody with a court date of December 18, 2018. She did not appear at court and a warrant for her arrest was issued.
Yesterday at 2:00 p.m. the 32-year-old woman was located in Wallaceburg and arrested on the warrant for failing to attend court. She was transported to CKPS Headquarters and later released with a future court date.
Wallaceburg Man Arrested on Warrant – CK19001724
In October 2018, a warrant was issued for the man for three counts of fraud under $5000.
Yesterday at 2:00 p.m. the 30-year-old man was located in Wallaceburg and arrested on the warrant. He was transported to CKPS Headquarters and later released with a future court date.
Man Arrested for Public Intoxication – CK19001809
Early this morning at 12:30 a.m. a drunk 23-year-old Morpeth man was located on King Street W. in Chatham. He was arrested and charged with being intoxicated in a public place. The man was transported to CKPS Headquarters due to the belief he was unable to care for himself. He was
released when sober.
Man Arrested on Warrants – CK19001761
Last night at 6:38 p.m. the man was observed inside a building on Grand Avenue W. in Chatham. The man had previously been trespassed from this location, therefore, police were called.
At 6:54 p.m. the man was stopped by an officer. Further investigation revealed the man had outstanding warrants for his arrest. The 35-year-old Chatham man was arrested on the warrants and transported to CKPS Headquarters where he has been held for a bail hearing.
