The Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to 173 calls for service in the last 24 hours. Seven people were arrested.
Man Charged with Public Mischief CK18033541
On May 12, 2018 around 2:00 a.m. the man lost control of his vehicle and struck a parked vehicle on Little Street in Wheatley. The man fled the scene without notifying police or the owner of the vehicle. The collision caused several thousand dollars damage to both vehicles.
Around 2:30 a.m. the man struck a tree on Klondyke Road, rendering his vehicle inoperable. He was picked up from the scene prior to police arrival.
Around 5:00 a.m. the man called police to report his vehicle stolen.
Yesterday afternoon, police located the man and he was arrested. The 19-year-old Wheatley man has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident and public mischief. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Woman Charged with Facilitating a Breach CK18033639
Last night around 11:30 p.m. an officer on general patrol initiated a traffic stop in the area of Clover Place and Monarch Drive in Chatham. The officer recognized the passenger and knew that he was currently wanted for failing to comply with his release conditions. The officer advised the man that he was under arrest and asked him to exit the vehicle.
The man exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver accelerated and drove away, almost striking the officer. She continued through the residential area at a high rate of speed. She did eventually stop at the intersection of Donalda Drive and Vanier Drive. Shayna Legue, 30 years, of Wellington Street in Chatham was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, facilitating a breach, fail to stop for police and flight while being pursued. She has been released pending a future court date of August 21, 2018.
Police continue to look for the 31-year-old Chatham man.
Man Charged with Break and Enter CK18033618
Shortly after 11:00 p.m. last night, police responded to the report of a suspicious person in the area of Inshes Avenue in Chatham. Through investigation, police identified the man and determined that he was responsible for a break and enter in the area as he was in possession of stolen property. Upon being searched incident to arrest, he was also found to be in possession of morphine, hydromorphone, THC gel caps and oil.
The 34-year-old Chatham man has been charged with break and enter, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000, breach of probation and drug possession. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Update: Youths Charged with Theft of Gas CK18032263
As previously released, on July 12, 2018 at 4:30 a.m. three local teens attended Mac’s Milk in Thamesville. Two of them concealed their identities while pumping gas. The male teen drove off before anyone paid for the gas.
On Wednesday morning, the driver, a 17-year-old Thamesville youth was arrested and charged.
Yesterday, the other two youths involved were arrested.
The 17-year-old Dresden youth was charged with theft under $5000 and being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was released pending a future court date of August 20, 2018.
The 15-year-old Chatham youth was charged with theft under $5000, being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000 and wearing a disguise with intent. She was released pending a future court date of August 20, 2018.
Break and Enter in Chatham CK18033641
Around 2:00 a.m. this morning, police responded to an alarm at the Chatham-Kent Veterinary Clinic on Grand Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed that the front door had been smashed with a rock. Police continue to work with staff to determine, what, if anything was stolen.
